Note: The distinction between temperate seasons on the Texas coast is sometimes a faint one. Overlapping of species is to be expected, with water temperature usually the deciding point. Remember that Red Snapper are subject to season closures in Federal waters beginning 9 nautical miles out of Freeport, but remain legal in Texas state waters all year. Tarpon are catch and release only. Large sharks are under a one fish per boat per day possession limit.
